Chris (left) with Liberty Mutual representative, Nicholas Grego

Congratulations to Chris Marinich, a Special Education Teacher at Maine Memorial. Chris is the September META/Liberty Mutual "Teacher of the Month." John Pufky (META member and 5th grade teacher) nominated Chris: “As a special education teacher, Chris accepts nothing but the best of his students.” John added that Mr. Marinich makes learning fun and for all of his students.

“He creates lessons that follow state standards, yet he revolves his lessons around ideas and topics that peak student interest. Chris truly has the best interest of his kids at heart. He takes the extra time to ensure that the needs of his kids are met.”

Pasta dinner to benefit Root family

The District will hold a pasta dinner fundraiser for the family of Elliott Root on Oct. 15 at the High School.  The dinner will run from 4:30 until 7:00 pm.

Elliott is the son of Homer Brink social worker, Amy Root. The 7-year-old is recovering from 2 open-heart surgeries. Proceeds from the event will help offset the costs associated with his surgeries and recovery.
Doesn't this make you smile?
Frank’s Restaurant, in the town of Maine (and family of M-E graduates), is providing food at cost.

Dinners are $8 for adults; $4 for children under 10, with a $25 cap per family. Take out dinners are available. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or prior at all buildings, or by contacting Gina Elsner at the HS, 748-8070 (x 2366), or gelsner@me.stier.org. Checks can be made out to “Elliott’s Fund, M&T Bank.”

There will also be basket raffles, a 50/50 drawing, face painting for children and live entertainment.

Please support our META colleague by donating money, items toward a basket or time.

Hope to see you there!

Congratulations to our Golden Apple teacher!

Mary Ann Wasilnak, Art teacher at Maine Memorial, is the recipient of the 2014 Maine-Endwell Teachers' Golden Apple Excellence in Teaching Award.

The award is given annually to a person who exemplifies excellence in teaching at Maine-Endwell, significantly influences the lives of students, and contributes to the success of his or her school.

Wasilnak has been a teacher in the Maine-Endwell School District for 13 years. She is known by her colleagues as a teacher who goes above and beyond to make learning engaging, meaningful and fun for all of her students.

In the classroom, Wasilnak works to connect her Art lessons to the Common Core Standards in Math and English Language Arts. Her strategies include appealing to her students interests whether it be through geometry, or fairy tales. She chooses topics and projects that make learning come alive through applications to art. Wasilnak is dedicated to inspiring students to reach their goals and she looks forward to each of her students’ successes as scholars, musicians, athletes and performers.

Outside of the classroom, Mary Ann serves as assistant director of the Maine Memorial morning program. She is a member of the New York State Art Teachers Association, co-chairwoman for the UHS Children’s Holiday Art Show, coordinator of the Maine-Endwell/Binghamton General Art Show, and each year she organizes the Maine Memorial Cultural Art Festival. She is a member of her school’s building planning team, volunteers at her church and is active in Maine-Endwell Teacher’s Association events.

Congratulations Mary Ann!
